Can Assist

Can Assist is a charitable organisation of local volunteers offering support to local families affected by cancer. The funds are raised by donation within the community and remain in the community to help local people.

Can Assist provides practical support services and financial help to families who have a member undergoing treatment for cancer.

• This support can take the form of :
  - financial assistance, for instance to those people who, because of loss of income due to their cancer, have
    difficulty meeting everyday expenses, including help with pharmacy bills for prescriptions necessary for the treatment of cancer;
  - assistance with petrol bills if they are because of travel to gain treatment;
  - assistance with the supply of specialised and often costly equipment which is made available to patients registered with the Palliative Care Service;
  - funding for respite night nursing for patients who wish to remain at home rather than to be hospitalised in their last days of living;
  - assistance with overnight accommodation in Sydney at our recommended venue if treatment requires it.
• Please understand that Can Assist will give assistance where warranted, but it is a volunteer organisation with funds gained solely by donation, so it is unable to pay the total amount of bills.
• When circumstances warrant, respite nursing can be arranged through the Wingecarribee Palliative Care Service.
